Amazon Launches the SP-API Promotions API — Seller Tools Can Now Search Deals, Coupons, Price Discounts and Basket-Building Promotions and Pull Their Item-Level Issues

Sellers who build their own SP-API integrations or use third-party repricing, deal-management or analytics software that runs on SP-API, particularly those running many coupons and deals across Q4. Sellers who manage promotions only by hand in Seller Central see no change. Vendors are not listed as eligible.

Amazon's August 26, 2026 Selling Partner API release notes announced the new Promotions API (version 2025-12-01), which Amazon describes as a way to search, retrieve and manage promotions. It covers four promotion types — deals, coupons, price discounts and basket-building promotions — and is available to sellers in the NA, EU and FE regions. The three documented operations look up promotions, their full configuration and the items in them, including validation issues; no create, update or cancel operation is listed. The same release added a promotionsApiMappingId field to the coupon and promotion performance reports so report rows can be matched to Promotions API records.

Real-World Impact

A seller with 45 running coupons and deals who calls searchPromotions with the default page size of 20 gets them across 3 pages (20 + 20 + 5) using nextToken; setting the limit to the documented maximum of 100 returns all 45 in one call.

Key Points

  • Launched in the August 26, 2026 SP-API release notes: the Promotions API, current version 2025-12-01, with no legacy versions. Availability is listed as Sellers, with a static sandbox
  • Supported promotion types are DEAL, COUPON, PRICE_DISCOUNT and BASKET_BUILDING; supported regions are NA, EU and FE
  • Three operations are documented: searchPromotions (search and filter promotions), getPromotion (full details for one promotion) and getSelection (the product items in a promotion). Each requires at least one of the Pricing or Product Listing roles
  • searchPromotions can filter by status (PROCESSING, UPCOMING, RUNNING, EXPIRED, FAILED, CANCELLING, CANCELLED), by type, by up to 10 ASINs or SKUs, and by start, end or last-updated dates, returning 1–100 results per page (default 20)
  • getPromotion and getSelection can return validation issues; item-level issues require requesting the selection, and getSelection only supports selections of type ITEMS, not CATALOG. Item-level benefits and budgets are returned only for DEAL and PRICE_DISCOUNT promotions
  • The Reports API added promotionsApiMappingId to GET_COUPON_PERFORMANCE_REPORT and GET_PROMOTION_PERFORMANCE_REPORT. Separately, on July 29, 2026 Amazon added a promotions array to the Product Pricing API's getCompetitiveSummary operation for live Coupon, Deal and Basket_Building promotion details

What You Should Do Now

  1. 1If you use deal or repricing software, ask the vendor whether it has adopted the Promotions API to flag FAILED promotions and validation issues automatically before Prime Big Deal Days and Black Friday/Cyber Monday
  2. 2If you run your own SP-API app, confirm it has the Pricing or Product Listing role, then test searchPromotions in the static sandbox
  3. 3Filter searchPromotions by FAILED status and request ISSUES data to find promotions that did not go live, instead of checking each one in Seller Central
  4. 4Use the new promotionsApiMappingId field to join coupon and promotion performance report rows to the matching Promotions API record
  5. 5Do not plan on creating or editing promotions through this API yet — the documentation lists only search and retrieve operations
