How This Works

Amazon allows sellers to use a limited set of HTML tags in product descriptions. This editor helps you write and preview your description using only the tags Amazon supports, so you can see exactly how it will render on the product detail page.

Allowed HTML Tags on Amazon

TagPurpose
<b>, <strong>Bold text
<i>, <em>Italic text
<br>Line break
<p>Paragraph
<h3>, <h4>, <h5>Headings (h1 and h2 are not allowed)
<ul>, <ol>, <li>Bulleted and numbered lists

Tags Amazon Does NOT Allow

Amazon strips out many common HTML tags. Avoid using any of the following in your product description:

  • <div>, <span> — layout and inline containers
  • <img> — images
  • <a> — links
  • <table>, <tr>, <td> — tables
  • <style>, <script> — styling and scripting
  • Any class, id, or style attributes

Best Practices for Amazon Product Descriptions

  • Keep your description under 2,000 characters. Amazon enforces this limit in Seller Central.
  • Use bullet points (<ul>) to make features scannable. Most shoppers skim rather than read.
  • Bold your most important keywords and phrases with <b> tags to draw the eye.
  • Break up long blocks of text with <br> or <p> tags. Walls of text hurt conversion rates.
  • Include your main keywords naturally. The description is indexed for search, so relevant terms can help your organic ranking.
  • Focus on benefits first, then features. Explain what the product does for the customer before listing specifications.
  • Do not include promotional language like "sale", "free shipping", or "limited time". Amazon may suppress your listing for policy violations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Amazon allows a limited set of HTML tags: <b>, <strong>, <i>, <em>, <br>, <p>, <h3>, <h4>, <h5>, <ul>, <ol>, and <li>. All other tags such as <div>, <span>, <img>, <a>, <table>, <style>, and <script> are stripped out. Attributes like class, id, and style are also removed.
Amazon enforces a 2,000-character limit for product descriptions in Seller Central. This includes the HTML tags themselves, so keep your raw HTML under 2,000 characters. Some categories may have different limits, but 2,000 is the standard.
Go to Seller Central, navigate to your product listing, and find the Product Description field. You can paste raw HTML directly into this field. Amazon will render the allowed tags on your product detail page. Use this editor to write and preview your HTML before pasting it in.
If your formatting is not rendering, you may be using unsupported tags (like <div> or <span>), or you may have attributes (like class or style) that Amazon strips out. Make sure you are only using the allowed tags: b, i, em, strong, br, p, h3-h5, ul, ol, and li without any attributes. Also verify that you are editing the description field, not the bullet points field.
